On Continua Whose Links Are Non-intersecting
There are many examples known of compact continua no two of whose simple links intersect, even though uncountably many of the links are nondegenerate. On page 346 of his Foundations of point set theory [ l] , R. L. Moore has given an example of a compact continuum which is the sum of an uncountable collection of nondegenerate simple links, only a countable number of which intersect. In view of ...
متن کاملOn Varieties Whose Universal Cover Is a Product of Curves
We investigate a necessary condition for a compact complex manifold X of dimension n in order that its universal cover be the Cartesian product C of a curve C = Por H: the existence of a semispecial tensor ω. A semispecial tensor is a non zero section 0 6= ω ∈ H0(X,SnΩ1X(−KX)⊗ η)), where η is an invertible sheaf of 2-torsion (i.e., η ∼= OX). We show that this condition works out nicely, as a su...
متن کاملCharacterization and axiomatization of all semigroups whose square is group
In this paper we give a characterization for all semigroups whose square is a group. Moreover, we axiomatize such semigroups and study some relations between the class of these semigroups and Grouplikes, introduced by the author. Also, we observe that this paper characterizes and axiomatizes a class of Homogroups (semigroups containing an ideal subgroup). Finally, several equivalent conditions ...
متن کاملOn Connected Transversals to Subgroups Whose Order is a Product of Two Primes
We consider finite groups which have connected transversals to subgroups whose order is a product of two primes p and q. We investigate those values of p and q for which the group is soluble. We can show that the solubility of the group follows if q = 2 and p ≤ 61, q = 3 and p ≤ 31, q = 5 and p ≤ 11. We then apply our results on loop theory and we show that if the inner mapping group of a finit...
متن کاملOn elliptic curves whose conductor is a product of two prime powers
We find all elliptic curves defined over Q that have a rational point of order N, N ≥ 4, and whose conductor is of the form pq, where p, q are two distinct primes, a, b are two positive integers. In particular, we prove that Szpiro’s conjecture holds for these elliptic curves.
